FINANCIAL PLANNERS, ACCOUNTANTS AND ESTATE ATTORNEYS: HOW YOUR PARTICIPATION IN LEAVE A LEGACY BENEFITS YOUR PRACTICE AND YOUR CLIENTS When you lend your professional support to LEAVE A LEGACY the campaign that encourages planned gifts to local charities and cultural groups through wills, trusts, insurance policies and other methods youll find that LEAVE A LEGACY, in turn, helps you, your practice, and your clients, too! We all know how hard it is to educate clients on the basic premise of planned giving and the tax benefits that are involved. To get families to act before its too late. To get people to understand that you dont have to be rich to have a will, to have an estate plan, to leave a legacy. Heres how LEAVE A LEGACYcan help you with that task: Our printed materials are available for you to distribute to your clients in person or through the mail. These materials cover the most basic points of planned gifts, so that your time, as a professional, can be used more productively in educating your clients on specific giving strategies and tax avoidance methods best suited for their individual circumstances. Our media campaign also covers basic educational points and urges people to contact their own attorneys, accountants or financial planners to execute a planned gift. If people do not already have a professional to help them, LEAVE A LEGACY maintains a free referral service providing names and phone numbers of qualified professionals such as yourself. This helps bolster the general idea of using qualified professionals and, in addition, provides specific new client leads. Many of the attorneys, accountants and financial planners who participate in LEAVE A LEGACY serve on our speakers bureau and are scheduled to give presentations to local civic and service groups. While these professionals are prohibited from talking about their own practices or services during these presentations, they are allowed to give their business cards to any member of the audience that asks for one. This, again, often serves as an excellent source of new client leads. Your participation in LEAVE A LEGACY can be as simple as leaving our brochures in your office waiting room or as active as being one of our spokespersons in the community. Carpenter Dominic Mason died in 1989. Tomorrow, he’ll renovate the playroom at the local homeless shelter. As a carpenter, Dominic renovated homes for his clients. As a child, he and his mother found a home in a shelter when times were hard. A counselor there showed Dominic a future filled with opportunity, and he never forgot that life-changing vision. Thanks to a bequest in his will, a few more children will have a chance to build their dreams. Include your favorite cause in your will or estate plan. Contact a charitable organization, attorney, financial advisor or local LEAVE A LEGACY® program to learn how.
